SCHOOL POWER
LAGUNA BEACH, CALIFORNIA 2023
We are grateful for the opportunity to give back to the community through the design of the new offices for SchoolPower. Given the close connection between the two organizations, we wanted the space to echo the spirit of the recently completed Family Resource Center Project. In keeping with the playful and welcoming tone of that space, we designed the new offices to feel approachable and non-institutional. As a parent-driven volunteer foundation, SchoolPower has a culture that feels more like a family than a formal organization. We aimed to reflect that warmth and sense of community in the design—homey, relaxed, and full of heart.
We used simple, honest materials that add a warm, modern edge to the space. Combined with a fun, light-hearted color palate, unlacquered brass and the edge of plywood
Nestled into a quiet residential neighborhood, our goal was to make it a well-kept secret that the building had once been an institutional trailer. Inspired to give the exterior a true sense of home, we clad the original structure in natural wood and warm painted siding, and added a cheerful Dutch door. The result is a welcoming, grounded facade—a perfect setting for this dedicated family of volunteers.
